Seven Little Prayers: Sunday–A Much-Needed Peace Prayer

Today’s final prayer in the Let Peace Fill My Heart booklet by Benetvision happens to be the Universal Peace Prayer.  How very fitting, given yesterday’s tragedy in Tucson, Arizona in which six people were killed and 12 injured, including Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.

I would like to remember with this prayer the victims of the tragedy as well as the souls of those who died, and in particular, Christina-Taylor Green.

The parentheses of nine-year-old Christina-Taylor’s life were two violent events with political underpinnings.  She was born the day of the September 11, 2001 attacks by Muslim extremists, and she died at a local political event at the hands of an assassin.  May she stand as a symbol of the desperate need for peace in this world so that we can see all of our children grow up and flourish in a world that treats them gently.

The Universal Peace Prayer

Christina-Taylor Green 2001-2011

Lead me from death to life, from falsehood to truth.

Lead me from despair to hope, from fear to trust.

Lead me from hate to love, from war to peace.

Let peace fill my heart, my world, my universe.
